Bishop Gregory (Lebedev) of Shlisselburg is a hieromartyr who was shot in 1937 during a persecution of Christians with a group of clergy and laity. (https://azbyka.ru/otechnik/Grigorij_Lebedev)
His central theological work is a commentary on the Gospel of Mark, written by him in the late 1920th. Here is this work in Russian:

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ… Behold, I send my messenger before your face… the voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord (Mk 1:1-3)

Так в душе человека Христову благовестию предшествует внушение ангела: "Приготовь путь Богу". Это – зов совести. Он зовет и в бесплодной жизни. И лишь в открытой душе, когда сбиты преграды страстей, когда уравнены пропасти падений, лишь в подготовленной душе может звучать и будет слышен голос евангельского слова. А за голосом Евангелия, когда он услышан, идет Христос. Иначе – закрыты у человека глаза, и закрыты уши, и ожесточено сердце, и ничего он не слышит.

Thus, in a person's soul, the preaching of Christ is preceded by the inspiration of an angel: "Prepare the way for God.” This is the call of conscience. It calls even in a barren life. And only in an open soul, when the barriers of passions are knocked down, when the abysses of falls are equalized, only in a prepared soul can the voice of the Gospel word be heard and understood. And after the voice of the Gospel, when it is heard, Christ comes. Otherwise, a person's eyes are closed, and their ears are closed, and their heart is hardened, and they hear nothing.

И в чистой совести естественного человека, не просвещенного христианством, стоит «Некто», Которого она не знает. Это – Бог. Even in the pure conscience of a natural person, unenlightened by Christianity, stands "One" it does not know. This is God. A person often turns to Him already after some life impressions and influences, but He is before of everything. He is the mightiest. When the soul reaches out to Him, then it will understand: "He is the One, the strap of Whose sandal I am not worthy to untie". This is God.
Только Бог может в корне изменить человеческое ничтожество. И чистая душа понимает это. Только Бог может огнем истребить человеческий смрад и вдохнуть дыхание новой жизни веянием очистительно-творческой силы Святого Духа. Таково крещение души: смерть в огне, погребение и восстание в воде очищения и обновление в благодати Святого Духа.	Only God can fundamentally change the insignificance of a person. And a pour soul understands this. Only God can exterminate human stench by fire and breathe a new life by winnowing the cleansing and creative power of the Holy Spirit. Such is the baptism of the soul: death in fire, burial and resurrection in the water of purification, and renewal in the grace of the Holy Spirit.

Так в душе человека Христову благовестию предшествует внушение ангела: "Приготовь путь Богу". Это – зов совести. Он зовет и в бесплодной жизни. I think here Fr. Gregory means the sinful passions, which Ap. Paul mentions by saying that when people live in the flesh only, these passions only bear fruit for death (Rom 7:5). Man's nature is corrupted so that his garden is full of various heaps and holes and it is necessary to prepare it to meet God.

Так Дух Святой благодати посещает человека по очищении крещением покаяния. Когда в крещении покаяния будет погребен «ветхий», истлевающий человек, тогда и отверзаются для человека небеса и ему даруется веяние благодатного Духа. Святой Лука боговдохновенно присоединяет упоминание о молитве Христа по выходе из воды и тем больше углубляет мысль о времени ниспослания Святого Духа: «Иисус, крестившись, молился: (тогда) отверзлось небо...» И для христианской души, прошедшей искус очистительного покаяния, надо сейчас же вступать в духовный подвиг устремленности к Богу (подвиг молитвы), и тогда откроется ей небо.	Thus the Holy Spirit of grace visits a person who has been cleansed by the baptism of repentance. When in the baptism of repentance the "old", decaying person is buried, then the heavens open for the person and he is given the winnowing of the grace-filled Spirit. St. Luke, by inspiration of God, adds the mention of the prayer of Christ upon emerging from the water and the more deepens the thought of the time of the sending of the Holy Spirit: “Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, (then) the heavens were opened”. And for the Christian soul, which has passed the ordeal of cleansing repentance, it is necessary to immediately enter into the spiritual feat of striving towards God (the feat of prayer), and then heaven will be opened to it.

As soon as the soul sets out on the path to God, temptations rush upon it like a desert whirlwind. The desert represents the world of barren life, this is a life of the earth. It immediately attacks the soul because there is no kinship between them. There is a struggle between them. And a Christian, having just declared himself as God's, is immediately forced to begin this struggle with the world of temptations. It is unavoidable. Otherwise, he is not the son of the Spirit, but the son of the earth. And you must be ready for the temptations of Satan. Meet them calmly to fight back fully armed.

The struggle with sin is inevitable for the warrior of God; it means that if you are a warrior, then fight, and do not fold your hands in cowardice.
Борьба будет долгой. Сорок дней (в Священном Писании) указываются как наивысший, предельный срок подвига. Предстоит длительная борьба. Борьба на всю жизнь.	The fight will be long. Forty days (in the Holy Scriptures) are indicated as the highest, maximum feat period. There is a long struggle ahead. It is a lifelong fight.

И был (Господь в пустыне) со зверями; и ангелы служили Ему (Мк.1:13).	And he (Lord in the wilderness) was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. (Mk 1:13)
Когда человек, пошедший к Богу, останется в пустыне жизни, на него набрасываются звери. Звери – это страсти человека. Они кругом обступают душу и грозят ей. Разве они не кровожадные звери? И разве не терзания они приносят христианской душе? – Мужайся, борись... Так должно быть.	When a person who has turned to God finds himself in the wilderness of life, beasts attack them. These beasts are the passions of a person. They surround the soul and threaten it. Aren't they bloodthirsty beasts? And don't they bring torment to the Christian soul? – Take heart, fight... It should be so.
А затем: ты не один! «Ангелы служили Ему». Вот твоя невидимая охрана. Божия рука теперь сопутствует тебе, и ограждение твое крепко. Только не изменяй Богу!	And then: you are not alone! "Angels were ministering to Him". That's your invisible protection. God's hand is now with you, and your defense is strong. Just don't turn away from God!

Проходя же близ моря Галилейского, увидел Симона и Андрея, брата его, закидывающих сети в море, ибо они были рыболовы. И сказал им Иисус: идите за Мною, и Я сделаю, что вы будете ловцами человеков (Мк.1:16–17).	Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” (Mk 1:16-17)
Люди живут у моря жизни, и все они – рыболовы. Они кидают в море жизни сети души и ловят ими ценное или сор жизни.	People live by the sea of life, and all of them are fishermen. They throw the nets of the soul into the sea of life, catching valuable or rubbish of life.
Пойди к Начальнику лова – Богу – и через Него закидывай сети... И прежде всего поймаешь свою душу, а то ведь она на стороне, на глубоком «сорном дне».	Go to the Chief of the catch – God – and cast your nets through Him... And first of all you will catch your own soul, because it is still aloof, on a deep "rubbish bottom".

И они (Симон и Андрей) тотчас, оставив свои сети, последовали за Ним (Мк.1:18). Он увидел Иакова Зеведеева и Иоанна, брата его, также в лодке починивающих сети; и тотчас призвал их. (Mk 1:18) he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father ... and followed him.(Mk 1:19-20)
Люди – ловцы и закидывают сети души, а сети дырявые и их пытаются починить. И всех зовет Господь... Как чутко откликнулись чистые души призванных апостолов: они тотчас пошли; пошли, оставивши все: имущество (сети)... да что имущество? – они пошли, оставивши отца своего.	People are catchers who cast the nets of their souls, but the nets are full of holes and they try to mend them. And the Lord calls everyone... How sensitively the pure souls of the called apostles responded: they immediately went; they went, leaving everything behind: possessions (nets)... but what are possessions? They went, leaving their own father.
Пример нерадивой душе!	An example for a negligent soul!
Сколько зовов пройдет через нее. А она тупа, глуха, бесчувственна... Господь же зовет и зовет. Гибель души приходит по ее нерадению.	How many calls will pass through it. And it is dull, deaf, insensitive... Yet the Lord calls and calls. The destruction of the soul comes through her negligence.

В синагоге их был человек, одержимый духом нечистым, и вскричал (когда Господь вошел в синагогу): оставь! что Тебе до нас, Иисус Назарянин? Ты пришел погубить нас... And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, [saying, “Let us alone.](1) What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us?”... Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him.
Здесь образ столкновения мира Христа и мира земли. Мир земли не выносит мира Божия, и в душе, начавшей борьбу за добро, он ожесточенно выталкивает добро: «Оставь меня, это мне не годится... Это не для меня». И в первых схватках добра со злом, когда в душе, поддерживаемой Божией силой, начинает поборать мир добра, зло оставляет насиженное гнездо, всячески потрясая душу. Запомни.	Here is the image of the collision between the world of Christ and the world of the earth. The world of the earth cannot endure the world of God, and in the soul that has begun the struggle for good, it violently pushes out goodness: "Let me alone, this is not suitable for me... This is not for me." And in the first battles between good and evil, when in the soul, supported by God's power, the world of goodness begins to overcome, evil leaves its entrenched nest, shaking the soul in every possible way. Every soul in the world is shaken by Satan, just like in a fever. "Behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat". Just as the grains are shaken during the process of sifting, the devil shakes human souls.
Надо, чтобы Господь взял душу как бы за руку, и тогда она стала служить Ему. В душе есть обращенность к Господу, есть желание работать Ему, а сил нет... мир теряет душу, и усилия души бесплодны. Ищи Божию руку, и тогда встанешь от болезни мира и станешь служить Христу.	It is necessary that the Lord take the soul as if by the hand, and then it began to minister unto Him. There is a turning towards the Lord in the soul, a desire to work for Him, but there is no strength... the world is losing the soul, and the efforts of the soul are fruitless. Seek God's hand, and then you will rise from the illness of the world and begin to serve Christ.

Зачем же люди идут ко Христу при наступлении вечера, когда уже заходит солнце их жизни и чувствуют они холод надвигающейся ночи? Зачем они откладывают путь ко Христу до времени, когда они уже бессильны идти, как бессильные и израненные? Зачем?	Why do people come to Christ when evening comes, at the sundown of their lives, when they feel the coldness of the approaching night? Why do they postpone their path to Christ until the time when they are already powerless to go, like the weak and wounded? Why?

(Господь) не позволял бесам говорить, что они знают, что Он Христос (Мк.1:34).	(The Lord) would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. (Mk 1:34)
Конечно, бесы знают, где Христос, где Божие, где добро, где зло. Они намеренно держат человека в слепоте, в потемках, чтобы не заблестел для человека Божий Свет истины. А по слепоте человека держится его рабство дьяволу.	Certainly, the demons know who is Christ, what is God's, where is good, and where is evil. They intentionally keep a person in blindness, in the dark, so that God's Light of truth does not shine for a person. And because of man's blindness, his slavery to the devil is maintained.

А утром, встав весьма рано, вышел (Господь) и удалился в пустынное место, и там молился (Мк.1:35).	And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed. (Mk 1:35)
Образец для тебя, душа! Бодрствуй, заключись в себя, молись, молись без конца. Если молитва была нужна безгрешному Божиему Сыну, то как же ты самонадеянно хочешь держаться в жизни без опоры на небо, на своего Небесного Отца? Ясно, что терпишь раны и падаешь часто.	An example for you, soul! Stay awake, turn inward, pray, pray without ceasing. If prayer was needed by the sinless Son of God, then how arrogantly do you want to navigate your life without relying on heaven, on your Heavenly Father? It is clear that you often suffer wounds and fall down.

Приходит к Нему (Христу) прокаженный и... говорит Ему: если хочешь, можешь меня очистить. Иисус, умилосердившись над ним ...сказал ему: хочу, очистись... и он стал чист. И (Господь), посмотрев на него строго, тотчас отослал его (Мк.1:40–43)	And a leper came to him (to Christ) ... and ... said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he ... said to him, “I will; be clean.” ... and he was made clean. And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once (Mk 1:40-43)
Так в земной жизни. Приходит (ко Христу) человек, весь покрытый проказою грехов, а самонадеянность человека велика! Он все еще думает о себе, своих силах, силах мира... К Богу он обращает вопрос не то самомнения, не то экзамена: «Ведь Ты же существуешь, Господь. И Ты милосерд. Что же Ты мне не поможешь?» А Господь все прощает и терпеливо ждет исправления, и подает Свою милость и по такой полувере.	This is how it happens in earthly life. A person comes (to Christ) covered with the leprosy of sins, but the self-confidence of the person is very great! He still thinks about himself, his own strength, the strength of the world... He turns to God the question of either self-conceit or an exam: "After all, You exist, Lord. And You are merciful. Why won't You help me?" And the Lord forgives everything and patiently waits for correction, and extends His mercy even in such half-hearted faith.
«Я-то для всякого хочу, чтобы он был чист». Господь только строго посмотрит на такую больную душу, зная, что Его милость и на этот раз не обратит ее, и она не послушает Божия зова, и пойдет снова брести по своему грешному пути, как не послушал Господа исцеленный прокаженный.	"I, for my part, want everyone to be clean." The Lord will only look sternly at such a sick soul, knowing that His mercy will not turn it this time either, and it will not heed God's call, but will continue to walk her sinful path, just as the healed leper did not heed the Lord.

И пришли к Нему (Христу) с расслабленным... и, прокопавши ее (кровлю дома), спустили постель... Иисус, видя веру их... (совершает чудо) (Мк.2:3–5).	And they came, bringing to him (to Christ) a paralytic ... they removed the roof above him, and ... they let down the bed... And when Jesus saw their faith, he (performed a miracle) (Mk 2:3-5).
Первое условие благодетельного вмешательства Божией силы в человеческую жизнь – наличие веры в среде, на которую простирается Божие вмешательство. Есть вера для достойного и целесообразного восприятия Божией силы – Господь совершает чудо, нет веры – нет чуда.	The first condition for the beneficent involvement of God's power in a person's life is the presence of faith in the environment where God's involvement extends. There is faith for the worthy and purposeful perception of God's power - the Lord performs a miracle; there is no faith - there is no miracle.
Так происходит не по недостатку Божия всемогущества, а потому, что Божия сила не действует механически. А ведь если человек не имеет веры и, значит, не может воспринять Божией силы, то ее действие будет или механическим и как бы насилующим свободную волю человека, или же оно будет бесцельное и как бы растворится в пространстве. То и другое совсем недостойно Божией силы как Высшей разумной стихии. Потому и сказано: «Не мечите бисера», и другой раз: «Он (Господь) не сотворил (не мог сотворить) там чудо за неверие их (окружающих)».	This is not due to any lack of God's omnipotence, but because God's power does not operate mechanically. Indeed, if a person lacks faith and therefore cannot perceive God's power, its effect would either be mechanical and seemingly violating the free will of the individual, or it would be purposeless and seem to dissolve into space. Both of these scenarios are completely unworthy of God's power as the Supreme intelligent force. That is why it is said: "Do not throw your pearls", and another time: "He (the Lord) did not (could not) perform a miracle there due to their (the surrounding people's) unbelief".

Вот где причина физического расслабления – грехи! Вот где простой и вернейший диагноз физического вырождения людей – грехи! И совершенно понятно, потому что грех всегда есть прежде всего нарушение нормы, извращение природы, и потому ведет за собой расстройство – болезнь.	Here is where the cause of physical weakness lies - sins! This is where one can see the simplest and surest diagnosis of the physical degeneration of people - sins! And this is completely understandable, because sin is always primarily a violation of the norm, a perversion of nature, and therefore leads to disorder - illness.

А теперь наши души, грешнейшие грешнейших, будучи призываемы, торгуются: «Да как я устроюсь, как я буду жить... да что я получу?» И, давши слово идти за Господом, уподобляются сыну, который ответил Отцу, пославшему его на работу: «Иду, Господи», а сам не пошел (Мф.21:28–30).	But now, our souls, the most sinful of sinners, when called upon, bargain: "How will I settle down, how will I live... what will I get?" And, having given the word to follow the Lord, they are likened to a son who answered the Father, who sent him to work: "I go, Lord," but he did not go (Mat 21:28-30).
